Our Cruises - Cruise review of the Oosterdam

Oosterdam Cruise - Day 4 - Arhus

How lucky can we get?  We arrived in Arhus Denmark just in time for the annual "Ships Ahoy" festival, The harbor was filled with tall ships and the whole town seemed to be celebrating.  We stopped at one ship that had two police officers stationed in front and a woman in a navel uniform standing at attention with a large sword at the bottom of the gangway.

We asked one of the police officers what was going on and he told us it was the Queen of Denmark's boat.  We asked if she was aboard, and he told us she was shopping in town and would return shortly.

When the Queen returned we were ready and got some photos, and of the Prince as well.

We learned that the oldest ship in the harbor was 300 years old and the newest was the Oosterdam, which the local towns people were extremely interested in.

Arhus as seen from our balcony.

Old ships...new buildings.

Lots of ships.

A marching band greets the Oosterdam.

If you enjoy seeing tall ships this is the place.

And more tall ships.

A contrast between the old and the new.

Just more tall ships.

And more.

We thought these little children were quite cute.

A military marching band.

I guess the Danish navy even has submarines.

More military ships.

Standing Guard at the gangway of the Queen's ship must be tiring.

A view of the Queens ship.

Can you tell that this is a royal car?

Prince Henrick off to play tennis.

Finally we see the Queen of Denmark if only briefly. She didn't dally today.

Lots of these waterways at least near the harbor.

Yep...it looks like quite a festival.

A very picturesque little street near the harbor.

Another view of the street.

Interesting headstone shop.

We were un-aware that this rescue was just a demonstration at first.
