Discount cruises!

Are you looking for discount cruises?  We have discovered a great way to get really great bargains on our cruise ship vacations!

Cruise lines prefer not to have a lot of empty staterooms when they set sail.  So as the date of departure begins to approach, the cruise lines will begin to lower the stateroom prices.  As the sailing date approaches, the prices keep falling. Presto!

Three of our cruise ship vacations were less than half price! Check out our reviews of our experiences.

One of the keys to getting an inexpensive cruise is being able to move quickly.  If you are able to travel on as little as a months notice, spectacular bargains abound. The longer you wait and the closer to the cruise sailing date, the better the deal you can get.

There are lots of web sites that offer weekly or monthly newsletters alerting you to cruise bargains. Sign up for one or two!

Another thing we learned about during our various cruise ship vacations was how to obtain upgrades!  The cruise lines often use upgrades as incentives to get you to cruise. On our first couple of trips we figured we only used the room for sleeping so getting a great room was of secondary concern.  However, after having a room with a veranda, due to an upgrade, we will be looking for upgrade opportunities diligently from now on. A room with a veranda is well worth while.

Many travel agencies sponsor "Cruise Nights". These get-togethers feature representatives of various or specific cruise lines presenting information about their cruises, vacations, ships, destinations and what is being offered that year. Often by attending you can earn an upgrade.

In most cases, if you book a cruise at a "Cruise Night", you will get a better price, an upgrade and usually an on-board credit of cash to your ship board account. These get together nights are usually advertised in the travel section of your local newspaper, but don't hesitate to call some travel agents to find out if one is up-coming in a location near you.

In our case, we had selected the cruise we wanted from the internet.  Then we happened to see an add for a cruise night for Orient cruise lines in the travel section of our local news paper.  We got a really great price, a two category upgrade and a $100.00 on-board cash credit, all for just attending a brief informative get-together . It was certainly worth the trouble to go to the cruise night, not to mention the wine and appetizers were great!!

Another method of obtaining inexpensive cruise ship vacations is to go in the off season.  For instance, go to Alaska in the winter!

After you've cruised on a cruise lines once, you begin getting brochures for more cruise deals, plus special offers for people who've cruised multiple times.  I have found that the more cruises you take, the better the offers you get for things like upgrades and cash to spend on board.
